Been a LOOONG time since I wrote anything here - I'd like to one day redesign this site, but that will have to wait until later. Just wanted to let everyone who actually visits this site know that I finally have a stream on twitch.tv. I will be streaming my Gears team's scrims, ranked, as well as some other games so please check it out and give it a follow. :)
Click to view on TWITCH.TV - please make sure to follow :)
Couple of things I want to talk about before I get down to what this little entry is all about. First and foremost, happy new year! Great to see that everyone reading this made it through 2011. Second thing, this is one of my less serious or emotional entries - it's actually for a really good cause!
Late January there will be a huge Gears of War 3 event held in Newark, New Jersey. The guys setting it up have also created a division for all-female teams to enter and compete. We're buying this amazing player Marisa, also known as "Just Snipes", a plane ticket to come out and play with us on our team! All we're asking is that anyone who wants to help our cause make a small donation through a free online service called "Chip In". The interface will help us publically keep track of the funds as well as offer a way to safely transfer money via Paypal. You can donate any amount you want - even a couple of quarters will help us out! If you don't have anything to give or don't have a Paypal, please help us circulate the link:
Be sure to check out Marisa on Twitter @JustSnipes and don't forget to follow the rest of our ladies' - @PiiNK_VANiiTY, @ThatOneGirlPink, @GIRLPOlSON
I don't really know how to go about saying this without drawing out the topic too long to the point where no one is interested in reading. On Halloween, someone went to a bunch of GOW-related forums and streams and posted a picture of a naked girl claiming it was me. To start off this blog entry, I would like to say that the picture is not of me.
The history between this asshole and I, is a long one. He goes by WingManny and I've known him for about two and a half years. He was part of a potential competitive team for GOW3 called "Super Friends", if you've heard of them- they're notorious for being annoying, creepy, having stalker tendencies, etc. This is not the first ridiculous "prank" they've committed- one time they pretended one of their members was dead to get a major thread on the Epic forums closed down- this is also not the first time they've targeted me; these weirdos called my distant relatives in Baltimore at 3 a.m. asking if I was there. I stopped communicating with Super Friends when they targeted Archetype Gaming to cover their sponsorship because Infinity had supposedly stolen theirs- a sponsorship from Calibur 11 they never actually had. I wasn't even angry at the time, just very disappointed that a sponsorship meant more to them then what remaining tolerance I had for the group. After multiple e-mails, there was no friendship left to salvage, and I had no interest in speaking to them for any reason.
If that isn't motivation to attempt to destroy whatever reputation I've been building up in the GOW community, I don't know what is. The first time I heard that a naked picture of me was going around was from someone on Twitter, I honestly thought it was a joke or a poorly photoshopped image with my face on it. To my surprise, the girl in the photo actually does look quite like me, even though when I asked my fiance, he strongly disagreed. There are enough differences in the face I could point out, but no one is really interested in hearing that; I would like to mention that this looks to be a professionally photographed picture while all my photos are webcam shots or a camera-and-a-dirty-mirror shot because I don't like having my picture taken.
I didn't think this situation was going to bother me- it doesn't, really- I'm just annoyed that people actually think that girl is me, and that people actually think I would put out a nude photo of myself. I'm engaged, I've been with my fiance since before I even owned an Xbox, and I think that circulating naked pictures of yourself is for girls with poor self esteem who need a lot of attention. If you're a female who has put out nudies for your Xbox friends, that's fine, enjoy all the kind of guys that will attract like WingManny, but it's not for me. I've been gaming since I was five years old, I don't play for any other reason than I love to play. I really don't want that kind of attention.
To wrap things up, I strongly believe there are some people I will never convince that the picture in question is not me. The only way I could dispute it, without meeting you face-to-face in real life, would be to put out an actual naked photo, and that would just be extremely controversial, wouldn't it? To those people, I'm sorry that you're absolutely blind and can't see the truth, but if believing you know the girl in the picture while you beat your meat really turns you on, more power to you I guess. If you want to follow me on Twitter or add me to Xbox because of that picture, feel free, but do yourself a favour and don't expect a sexual, flirtatious girl starving for your attention- you will be sorely disappointed.
One hundred percent honest statement: there has been more than one occasion where I was ready to give up on this idea of playing a video game competitively. It sounds crazy, ready to willingly drop a sponsorship, but you wouldn't believe, at times, how hard it can be- the stress, the drama, the relationships, the things people expect of you.. from both a professional and unprofessional perspective.
Let me back track a little and say, it's hard to make it in the gaming community as a female- not just in the competitive community, but almost any community at all. They will treat you differently, whether you want them to or not, sometimes on a positive scale, but more often than not followed by negativity. There are very few players who can put aside a minor gender difference and appreciate a girl as a gamer- someone who loves playing the game- rather than simply someone who was born without a dangly slab of meat between their legs.
I'm still new to the competitive scene but I've learned a lot in the past few months. It's probably true that it only ever took just a few girls who earned bad reputations for themselves that would inevitably reflect poorly on the entire female player base, which isn't fair- but that's life. Girls are not taken seriously and people come to expect certain things of them when they get involved with the community.
I'm here to make a statement that I will never let anyone compromise my morality, my personal values and ideals that I've been proud of my entire life. I'm not here to impress anyone in this community and I certainly won't do "whatever it takes" to claw my way to the top. I'm here because of my love for the game, and my desire to grow and learn to become the best player I can be, both individually and as a team mate. I've met and played with some great people so far- some of them are on my team- who appreciate me for who I am, and would never ask me to change. To those people- I love you. If you expect anything else, or want to drag me down and deter me from my plans, don't even bother; I won't let you.

I really love to talk about video games, especially games I have played a lot, or my favourite series', but please understand that I typically will decline your friend request or leaving it pending. I recently cleared out my list a little bit to make room for people playing Gears of War 3 competitively- if you don't fall into this category, I'm sorry- I won't accept your friend request. If you do plan to play Gears of War 3 competitively and want to set up scrims, send me a message about it before your friend request. If you just want to talk, you can contact me on Facebook or Twitter, or if you need help with an achievement or just want to play for fun, send me a message and I'll join if I'm not busy.
That being said, please do not spam me with friend requests, party invites, game invites or messages. It's really, really annoying, especially when I'm in a scrim, so I'll be quick to block someone if it's distracting me.
Site v1 is now complete! It was a very involved, two-day project--tedious and, occasionally frustrating when things didn't quite go as I intended them to. After spending a couple fo hours coding the site, I ended up starting over because I did things completely wrong. Luckily I had been listening to the "Final Fantasy X" OST almost the whole time--it's not one of my favourites just because of the musical talent, but the reminiscent feeling that comes naturally from hearing such familiar tunes. Just a few of my favourite tracks from this OST: Underwater Remains, Guadosalam, The Road to Purgation, Daughter of a Great Summoner, and Auron's Theme.
This project has kept me from gaming long enough so I'm going to find something to play. :) Toodles!
P.S., if you find any bugs or errors, or have some suggestions that might make the site better (over time, of course) please don't hesitate to let me know! Just shoot me a message on Facebook or Twitter. Thanks!
